2. Die Berufsbildenden Schulen (BBS) am Museumsdorf

BBS am Museumsdorf is a vocational college in the district town of Cloppenburg in Lower Saxony. The name “am Museumsdorf” refers to the renowned open-air museum situated nearby. The college has a 100-year-old history of successful vocational training and education. It is engaged in an exchange programme with Buffalo City College in East London, Linkside High School in Port Elizabeth SA, MSC College in East London SA and other colleges in Denmark, France, Norway, the Netherlands and China. The college co-operates with external partners, such as local firms, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Chamber of Trade, different organizations for further education, for the training of young people. This co-operation ensures a high standard of training.

3. Educational and Training Opportunities

The college comprises a wide range of departments: business studies and administration, health care, IT, nursing, domestic science and agriculture.

The students are streamed according to their school leaving certificate and their abilities. They can take part in courses on different levels preparing them for their careers: elementary courses, basic training courses or advanced training and education. In addition general subjects are taught as well so that they have the opportunity of achieving higher qualifications.

In the full-time classes the students attend the college 5 days a week. Those who have started a traineeship are part-time students in the dual system. They are instructed once or twice a week. On the other days they work in their normal occupation. BBS co-operates with charitable organiza-tions to train handicapped students.

Additionally, students have the chance to obtain qualifications normally attainable at schools of general education. GUIDING PRINCIPLES OF BBS AM MUSEUMSDORF

Our Vision

We have developed a competent centre of economy, health, social science and agriculture. As a long established college of vocational training, we aim to strengthen our region both nationally and internationally.

Our Mission

As an educational establishment, we support the development of young people of our region, to become technically competitive in their particular field of study. We offer attractive and diverse training opportunities in the field of elementary courses, basic training, advanced training and general qualifications. We also offer opportunities for students to attain additional qualifications and certificates.

Our Aims

1. We place great emphasis on the teaching of our students

Eager students are given the opportunity to gain qualifications, specialized knowledge and social skills to enable them to:
cope with working life
contribute to society
gain access to institutions of further education
qualify for university entrance

We strive to achieve a pleasant and conducive working environment in our college.

2. We see ourselves as partners in the process of a successful training

By regular liaising with different places of learning and companies employing apprentices, we are able to keep abreast of current educational requirements and can thus update our training methods.

3. We attach importance on teamwork and co-operative working methods

Staff members and college administratives recognize that they are mem-bers of a team who respect and support each other. The college administra-tion promotes a culture of open communication and co-operation against the background of a clear allocation of responsibilities. The staff are offered appropriate help and support in cases of problems concerning college mat-ters as well as personal problems.

4. We are successful because of the consistent quality of our educational methods.

Students are educated in accordance with the national guidelines so that successive educational institutions may build on a sound foundation. We seek out the requirements of the educational institutions and take these into consideration, wherever possible, when determining the educational goals.

5. We involve parents and legal guardians in college life

The parents can be assured that the college will give their children the best education and training. They can rely on the college providing suitable ca-reer advice for their children.

6. We maintain an open policy of disclosure

With all partners of vocational training, we seek co-operation and an open exchange of information. We are accountable to the community for our teaching methods and the passrate achieved by the students.

7. We handle with care our available resources

Members of the college community have the resources at their disposal when needed for any further development of course work.
