  2. Die Berufsbildenden Schulen (BBS) am Museumsdorf

    BBS am Museumsdorf is a vocational college in the district town of Cloppenburg in Lower Saxony. The name “am Museumsdorf” refers to the renowned open-air museum situated nearby. The college has a 100-year-old history of successful vocational training and education. It is engaged in an exchange programme with Buffalo City College in East London, Linkside High School in Port Elizabeth SA, MSC College in East London SA and other colleges in Denmark, France, Norway, the Netherlands and China. The college co-operates with external partners, such as local firms, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Chamber of Trade, different organizations for further education, for the training of young people. This co-operation ensures a high standard of training.

  3. Educational and Training Opportunities

    The college comprises a wide range of departments: business studies and administration, health care, IT, nursing, domestic science and agriculture.

    The students are streamed according to their school leaving certificate and their abilities. They can take part in courses on different levels preparing them for their careers: elementary courses, basic training courses or advanced training and education. In addition general subjects are taught as well so that they have the opportunity of achieving higher qualifications.

    In the full-time classes the students attend the college 5 days a week. Those who have started a traineeship are part-time students in the dual system. They are instructed once or twice a week. On the other days they work in their normal occupation. BBS co-operates with charitable organiza-tions to train handicapped students.

    Full-Time Courses

    Full-time courses are offered in business studies and administration, health care, IT, nursing, teaching science, domestic science and agriculture. Student placement in the respective courses depends on the previous qualification attained. Additionally, students have the chance to obtain qualifications normally attainable at schools of general education. The students can even pass their “Abitur” which is the general qualification for university entrance. The college runs some courses where the students get a completed training e.g. in home and family care.

  4. Special Tuition and Additional Qualifications

    The range of training opportunities is extended by innovative ideas, educational qualifications and certifications and remedial lessons.

    Examples:

    • The students have the chance to achieve a certificate of proficiency in a foreign language based on “The Common European Framework of Reference for Language.”
    • Advanced knowledge in computer literacy can be certified by Xpert, a European qualification.
    • In the department of teaching science the students can take guitar lessons. They can also acquire the seal of quality “Felix” singing with children instigated by “Deutscher Sängerbund” which is the association of German choirs.
    • Interested students can get tuition to act as mediators.
    • In the business studies department student international traders have the opportunity to take part in a course on trading with the Eastern European Economic Area.
    • Future tax consultant secretaries are offered courses in communication.
